“I am pleased to announce the release of David Thom's new CD, That Old Familiar. I produced (and engineered) David's latest recording, and though I may be a little biased, I'd say it sounds pretty darn good! David's music is so far known almost exclusively to Northern California audiences, but that may well be changing. Check it out here!”  - Laurie Lewis

California acoustic artist, David Thom teamed up with Grammy-winner Laurie Lewis (producer) to record this CD between May and August of 2011.

The CD ranges from driving bluegrass to tender country ballads, and features some of California's most talented players on today's acoustic scene. Mike Witcher (Peter Rowan Band), Chad Manning (David Grisman Bluegrass Experience and Laurie Lewis and the Right Hands), Paul Shelasky (Lost Highway, David Thom Band), Tom Rozum (Laurie Lewis and the Right Hands), banjo master Bill Evans, and Laurie herself, to name a few.

The CD features songs from lesser known writers like Dave Alvin and Emma Smith, original songs from David, classic bluegrass and even a cover of the classic "Lucille" of Kenny Rogers fame.  A wonderful mosaic of Americana and bluegrass that flows together like it's one long, sweet song.

In addition to fronting his own traditional-style bluegrass band for the past 15 years, the David Thom Band, David was the lead guitarist and singer for the David Grisman Bluegrass experience for two years. He is a mandolin player for Grandpa Banana's Band, front man for the Flatt and Scruggs Tribute Band, and an accomplished songwriter.
