Legendary Banjoist Joins Social Media Group

Image635029976317859306Just a few weeks ago we saw a post on Kim Robins Facebook page announcing with glee that her former husband, the famed banjo man and former “Bluegrass Boy” Butch Robins had finally joined the Facebook crowd and invited us to “Like” his page.

There must be a major push from the Robins’ camp to get Butch up to speed with current technology because today we got another request from Joanne Mcgowan who is acting as Butch’s agent.

Research shows that the Butch Robins page was added to Facebook in late March of this year but the timeline shows quite a lot of activity already.

During his career Butch has played with such notables (besides Bill Monroe) as Snuffy Jenkins, Kenny Baker, Charlie Moore, Tut Taylor, Wilma Lee and Stoney Cooper, Jim & Jesse, Buck White, New Grass Revival and strange as it may seem, even Leon Russell.

His autobiography & memoirs, "What I Know 'Bout What I Know" earned strong reviews and a nomination for the IBMA's Printed Media Personality of the Year in 2004.

According to the Amazon page at the time of this posting only three copies of the book remain in stock.

As a Rounder Recording Artist in the 1970’s, Butch released three landmark albums - "Forty Years Late", "Fragments of My Imagicnation" and "The Fifth Child".

Since then, Butch has traveled to and performed in Japan, Australia and Europe. As a result of these travels, he assembled some of the world's finest bluegrass musicians into the World International Bluegrass Band in 2007 as "a musical statement of international cooperation and goodwill'. The band toured Virginia before performing at the IBMA Convention in Nashville, TN and taping a live TV performance for "Song of the Mountains".

For the past decade, Butch has been in search of the quintessential banjo tune and recording with various artists. New projects in the planning and development stages include collaboration with Michael Cleveland, Yoshihiro Arita and Kathy Chiavola.

Butch currently lives near Pulaski, Virginia and is an avid golfer attached to the Great Oaks Country Club near Floyd, Virginia.
